What We Do

Service learning program

CIS is introducing a new mentor-mentee style program, the Service Learning Program. This will match SLP "Bigs" (high school students) with "Littles" (elementary students) to work on social skills, emotional skills, as well as help with homework and problem-solving.

After an early partnership with Plainview Schools, Josh Silver, Elementary Principal, will oversee this flagship program on behalf of CIS within the Plainview system. We are equally excited to serve Ardmore in a different capacity this fall! Michelle Malone will lead the charge for Ardmore's own version of the SLP, which will be replacing the traditional after-school program.

holiday program

CIS knows that parents still need a place for their children during school holidays such as teachers meetings, Christmas, and Spring Break.  Drop-ins are welcome and cost is $15 per child per day.  We will provide an afternoon snack.  Children should bring a lunch for Holiday Camp.

summer day camp

The Summer Day Camp will provide daily supervised learning activities centered on literacy. In addition to the curriculum, the students take part in educational, as well as fun, field trips and onsite activities. Students will attend the Summer Day Camp for eight weeks starting the first week of June and ending the third week of July. Our goal for Summer Day Camp is to help curb the learning loss that can occur between May and August. The students participate in interactive, creative, and literacy-focused educational activities and games in the morning. Afternoons are spent at the museum, libraries, swimming, bowling, skating, and the nature center at Lake Murray.

Get Involved

There are many ways to be involved with CIS. Individuals or businesses are welcome to do a presentation, either one time or ongoing, for our students. CIS can always use things for classrooms….puzzles, games, dolls, cars, blocks, magnetics, and STEM projects, just to name a few. CIS has an on-going wish list that can be shared by request. Of course, monetary donations are always appreciated and you can click the DONATE button to make a tax deductible donation.

Cities in Schools appreciates your continued support of our next generation of leaders.

I have been at CIS for 4 years and I absolutely loved it.  Here are some reasons why I love it:  All the mentors are the nicest and it has really fun things to do.  We play games, draw, do arts and crafts and go play outside.  I had a lot of fun.

My husband and I are really grateful for Cities In Schools after school program. We have two children that go there and have been going on 3 years now. The teachers are wonderful with the children and treat them all the same. I also believe that all the teachers and Mrs. Teri Tolbert have made a positive impact on our children’s lives by showing them patience and love. This is such a great program I hope to always be able to have it available as it helps out tremendously and I know my kids are safe and protected while there.

My child went to CIS the last 4 years.  CIS has a blessing to not only have a safe and caring environment to send her after school and in the summers but she also looked forward to going each day.  She developed many loving relationships with the mentors and staff there over the years.

In the summer of 2018, I enrolled my child in the CIS program. The CIS summer program offered a lot for my child to do that was fun and educational. Not only was the summer program enjoyable for my child, I was very impressed with the teachers compassion to connect with the kids. Since the 2018 summer program, my child has attended their after-school program, some of their holiday care days and each summer program since. I have never had to worry about my child’s safety through their program. The staff has always provided the care that my child needs and they are always welcoming and polite when I come to their building. My child has always had fun at the Cities In Schools program and is always excited about what the program offers, especially during the summer. We have been impressed with their program so much, we now have more than one child enrolled in it. I would not hesitate to recommend the Cities In Schools program to anyone. WE LOVE CIS!
